Hello, my name is Matthew Covey and welcome to my ePortfolio, hosted by Yourfolio.ca ! I'm currently enrolled at NSCC for IT Programming and will be graduating in June of 2023. I'm a highly motivated and passionate developer that is looking for a place I can make an impact and grow. Before we get into the serious stuff here is a bit about me.

I grew up outside of Halifax and through most of my childhood and teenage years I was always interested and around technology. As the end of high school neared I didn't have a clear goal in mind and I had a passion for cars and figured that a career in Automotive Service and Repair would be a safe option. Worst case I would spend 4 years at it, get my Red Seal, and then always have something as a fallback for the rest of my life. I spent the next 9 years attending NSCC, heading out into the industry, honing my skills, earning my Red Seal, and making a name for myself.

Then the pandemic hit, and as for most people, my life got shaken up a bit. Part of what I was shown was the unreliability of a manual labor job where I had no option other than to be in person. During the time I had off during the pandemic I realized that being a mechanic wasn't exactly fulfilling me. I loved being hands on, finding problems, and fixing them but I didn't get the sense of creating something, the pleasure of working on a team to build something amazing. I've never been much of an "artistic" person but I have always thought of myself as CREATIVE. Since I had starting my career I always told myself if I was unhappy then I would have to make a change, I never wanted to be "stuck" and if I had stayed a mechanic for much longer then I think I may have become "stuck". So with my mind made, and with the support of some incredible people around me, I applied to NSCC and started classes in September of 2021.

Now after a year and a half at this amazing institution the finish line is nearing. It's a little hard to believe that it's going to be over so soon. I will cherish the people I met, the connections I made, and all of the skills I have learned during my time here but at some point we need to spread our wings and fly. However, just because I'll be "done" with school I know that my learning is just beginning and I can't wait to learn about what you're doing and see how I can grow your business!
